Intuition Podcast [98] My Best Technique When You Doubt Your Intuition
Intuition or Wishful Thinking? How to Tell the Difference
Do you ever wonder, Is that my intuition, or is that wishful thinking? Is that my intuition, or just a random thought? Is that my intuition, or a solution I came up with long ago that didn’t work, but now I’m second-guessing?
Today, I’m going to give you a technique to vanquish these doubts.
But first, I want to explain what’s happening because we have a better chance of solving a problem when we understand when it’s likely to happen.
When Logic and Intuition Collide
This is what I call collision. There are three major obstacles intuitive people face: distortion, pollution, and collision. Today, we’re talking about collision.
Collision happens because there is only one you, and both your logical mind (your stream of consciousness) and your intuition (which resides in your subconscious) must communicate through the same channel—your thoughts.
We don’t have an external display for intuition; it all happens within our minds. That’s a problem because both your mind and your intuition communicate through your consciousness. This creates a collision.
You might think you’re listening to your intuition, but what’s actually coming through is a limiting belief from your logical mind.
This is a problem because it leads to doubt. Think of it like a relationship—if your spouse came home every day and you asked, Did you cheat on me today? Did you look at another woman?—eventually, that relationship would be poisoned.
Similarly, collision can poison your trust in your intuition, making you doubt it so much that you no longer believe in its guidance. And that’s a shame because there is gold in your intuitive insights.
Hearing them clearly is important, but trusting them is even more vital.
The Ask Your Future Self Technique
The problem with collision is the logical mind itself. Your logical mind governs your consciousness—it’s the part of your brain that knows that when the light turns red, you stop the car.
Meanwhile, your intuition, which resides in your subconscious, isn’t concerned with traffic lights or everyday logic. It cares about giving you real-time direction toward what you truly want on a soul-deep level.
They work together:
- When your logical mind is stuck, you turn to your intuition.
- Once you receive new information (which is all intuition is—information), you turn back to your logical mind to solve the problem.
They are the ultimate dynamic duo.
But sometimes, your logical mind hijacks the conversation. That’s where Ask Your Future Self comes in—it removes your logical mind from the equation.
Try this:
- Find a quiet place where you won’t be interrupted.
- Think about something you feel stuck on.
- Ask a why or what question (e.g., Why is this stuck? or What can I do today?).
- Clear your mind by counting backward from 21 (21, 19, 17, etc.).
- Imagine stepping into a future where you already know the answer.
- Approach your future self and ask: What’s the answer?
- Write down what she tells you.
This technique works because your logical mind can’t answer a question about the future—it doesn’t know! So it stays quiet, allowing your intuition to take center stage.
Recognizing Collision and Trusting Intuition
One of the best ways to recognize collision is by paying attention to how it feels. If something feels bad, your intuition may be trying to tell you there’s interference. Since words can get lost in collision, intuition often communicates through physical sensations, emotions, or images.
If you practice using techniques like Ask Your Future Self, you’ll start to experience intuitive insights more clearly and trust them more deeply.
Your intuition is always guiding you—it’s just a matter of learning how to listen.
